My Last Blog Entry This is the first time that I follow an e-learning English course. I did not learn English for four years. So I forgot all the grammatical rules. I knew a heap of words only. But this course is designed to improve the language skills systematically. Gradually I learn to write, read and speak with the help of digital tools (Digo, Ted Talk. Vacablary.com). our teacher did a lot of grammar activities to teach us to construct sesterces. She is very patient and kind. Now I feel confident when I talk in English. Thank you very much Mis.Hemali and juliya.

Persuasive Devices This week we learn language of persuasion by watching the video “the story bottle water”. Then i think of the advertisements in our television and think of the persuasive devises which are used to make us buy that particular product. A popular method is using a well-known person such as cricketers, singers, actors, who have an attractive personality. Those people praise and value the product by saying that they also used that product. They are well-paid for persuading people. The people are cheated by their attractive words. Another device is telling that the product is natural and contains indigenous herbs. The toothpaste, soup, shampoo, facial cream and scrubs are the several products which are advertised in this way.  In reality, those products are full of chemicals. TED TALK I listened to an interesting TED TALK done by Michael Botticelli on the “Addiction is a disease we should treat it like one.” This TED Talk is a self-confession. He talks about he is life from the child hood, how he addicted to the bad habits and how he get rid of those habits and became a successful man. He was a gay kid and he began to drink at an early age. His life was rotten. Then he describes how he had lost his friends. The people in society did not accept them. People blamed them by saying “day plague”. Then his decided to change and save is life. He founded way of recovery through love and care and he became a volunteer and show others to recover. May Day in Srilanka I read some articles on May Day. I learned the origin of May Day and other related details about it. May Day is celebrated to honor the laborer who sacrificed the lives to win their demands. After a painful struggle the laborers could obtain an 8 hours work day. May Day is celebrated in our country too. But I notice a difference in those celebrations. All the rallies are held by different political parts. The main objective of the May Day is forgotten. All May rallies look like propaganda meetings. They were full of heads. The main political parties use the sum of the heads to show their strength and success. The leaders were slinging mud to each other and boast about they ideology. The people who marched in rallies were drunken and behaved rudely. Most of them are bribed. The labors are forgotten I feel this rallies are insult to the labors.

TED TALK I listened to an interesting TED TALK done by Peter Weinstock on the “Life like simulations that make real-life surgery safer.” This ted talk is on the advancement of medical science, it is a new technology which will bring relief for patients, doctors and nurses.  The doctor describes an operation done to a new born baby. She had a rare of disease a hole in the diaphragm the intestines sneak up and disturbs the breath up. The baby was going to die soon. Doctors did an operation and save the life of the baby. Using the model of training called apprenticeship model, Surgery can be done severed times before they do a real one to get better practice. This is called medical stimulation. Plagiarism This week I learn about plagiarism. It’s a great fault. It is done by the students all over the world. According to the guide book at Swinburne University “plagiarism is stealing intellectual material” There are many types of plagiarism. Some students use to steal other students’ work which (may have presented earlier) represented as his own works.  If you need to write an individual assignment, you can have a discussion about the assignment. More ideas such as relevant materials and data collecting strategies can be understood by such discussion.    Plagiarism type two is connected with group work. Some students do not contribute enough to the whole work. But they got equal marks as other students who contribute a lot. TED TALK I listened to an interesting TED TALK done by Jonathan Drori on the beautiful tricks of flower. There are a quarter of a million flowering plants. The duty of the flower is to reproduce their species. Trees need to spread their genes with other genes to make a new plant to adapt to the environment.  For that purpose plants have to spread their pollens to faraway places. Wind is one method to spread pollen but it is not always successful. The insect and the birds are real pollinators. Flowers have many tricks attract them.  The flies, insect birds get nectar. They have nectar as their food, in return they pollinate the plants to reproduce. The birds also have adaptation to suck the nectar with long beaks. Some flowers look like insects to cheat the insects. They are cheated and reach the flower for food but they only get the pollens some flowers are in bright color so, insect can see then clearly. Myths about Online Learning I read this article on above topic. There are many interesting and important details.  I can agree with some details but some are not so. I would like to discuss on several facts. I agree with the 3 rd myth – “It’s put the teacher profession at risk” actually this fact is a myth. A teacher is a special person who gives knowledge, attitude and skills to the students with dedication. The teacher - student relationship is a valuable human quality. It may influence the student’s life. Online learning does not have such qualities. It is another man made programme to enhance the teaching and learning process. A teacher who likes to change traditional way of teaching and adapt to modern methods can be a perfect teacher. Then I would like to comment on 25 th myth – “ its does not provide real life experience”  I feel this fact is not a myth it is true. Class room learning is a real life learning which help to socialize the students.

MY SELF I am Chathura Iresh. I am from kalutara. I was born on 11 th of April in 1992 which means. I am 25 years old. My father is a business man. My mother is a nurse. I have got one sibling, an elder brother. I was a student of Tissa central collage national school in Kalutara. After the A/L, I worked as a Media – coordinator in Ministry of Finance. But I decided to do my higher studies and joined to NCHS. So I obtain 3 years leave from the service and  now I am a student of this institute. I hope to study hard during this period and fly to Australia for higher studies. My favorite subjects are chemistry and innovation and change. I am going to enter the university because my goal is to study these subjects in future and to become a respected professional in one of the fields. I meet new people and get on with them happily, I feel extremely comfortable with team. I can compose songs. Two of them are sung by popular artist.
